Past-Tracks Heritage and Walking is a small company run by Biddy Simpson, who is a qualified, professional archaeologist and walking instructor.
Biddy has worked in the Scottish archaeology and heritage sector for over two decades in both a fieldwork and advisory capacity. She has degrees in both archaeology and protected landscape management. Initially working in the commercial archaeology sector she then worked as an archaeologist with Shetland Amenity Trust before establishing and managing the archaeology service for East Lothian Council. In 2011 Biddy moved to Argyll with her husband, who is the farm manager for Tayvallich Estate.
Biddy has comprehensive experience working in a wide variety of landscapes and coastal settings. She has particular experience with archaeology in relation to agriculture, agri-environment schemes, forestry conservation and management planning. She also has extensive experience in promoting archaeology, delivering archaeological outreach and working with community groups (young people and adults). She is a corporate Member of the Chartered Institute of Archaeologists and a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
Biddy is a keen walker and hill walker. She has over 10 years experience of guiding walks, is an expedition supervisor with the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and a fully qualified First Aider. Biddy is a qualified walk leader (Sports Leader BELA, Mountain Training Lowland Leader) and is currently working towards the nationally accredited Mountain Leader Award. Biddy has also recently become one of Scotland’s first ChiWalking® instructors and is a member of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland.
